Ta8 Moma? I think you mean Ra8 but it is wrong? Sygma you are giving wrong explanations to Aero. [spoiler]In case White plays Bb1+ as suggested by Aero then Black cannot avoid mate by playing Ra2, after that move in fact White can checkmate either with Bishop takes Knight in c3 and Rook takes Rook in a2[/spoiler] Aero it's the first of the cases you listed that doesn't work: [spoiler]1.Bb1+ Nxa4 (knight kills rook) 2.Bxb2+ (bishop takes rook in b2 giving check) but unfortunately it is not a checkmate at all: Black can play either 2...Nxb2 (knight from a4 takes bishop in a2) and, even simpler, 2...Kxa2 (King takes bishop in a2) as the bishop it is not protected anymore by the knight.[/spoiler]

Haven't read any of the spoilers ..... A (Spoiler) Bishop takes knight. Black can only move pawn forward. White King moves forward. Checkmate. (Spoiler) Think thats right. Took me about 20 seconds, so it probably isn't :D

You have to select a text on your working message and then click on the [b]yellow shield.[/b] By the way don't worry MJD your solution is wrong! :) And also keep in mind that the board is white oriented since black pawns move downward. But your move, Bxc3 (Bishop takes kNight in c3) is interesting for one reason: it causes an immediate draw because Black has no legal moves anymore, it is called [i]stalemate.[/i] So let me resuming things. Both aeronautic and momagajic solved the B puzzle. Nobody solved the A puzzle (except Sygmassacre but I don't consider it a valid solution as he didn't give any kind of demonstration). Oh come on @Bishop, following whites move there are 11 different moves black can make and they each will be followed by checkmate. Do I have to explain all moves and their subsequent checkmate in order to get a pass mark?

So my A puzzle solution wasn't right? You still haven't explained why, I have run over it again and again and can't see why it doesn't work, please put me out of my misery? Solution to A [spoiler]Castle a4 to a3 Black has to move his knight as it's the only option. King c1 to d2 [/spoiler] Checkmate.
