it's ok, looks gloomy especially knowing what it looked like before. my taste really likes this one you did though. what would glanru like tho?

I delayed to mention my new impressions on the gray frame...
This map was grayish on purpose since the beginning of its developpement. I think Dima's version is not bad, but the frame should keep its original wood color, or anyway it should get some color of some kind. The darkness, the 'nigh effect', they are cool, but we can't have the whole image all gray. Probably that was the original design by Glanru: an almost gray map contoured by a thick wood frame. Now the frame turned metallic, sort of cast-iron color. Initially I was positive about it, but then I changed my mind.

I actually didn't even notice the new grey frame, I thought the frame was just ommitted. I like the colours

I like that second version with the color much better than the first. Nice work

The colorful version without frame is mine, it was just a try, I showed it to Dima before he started this thread and he followed my suggestions aboout white dots and town circles.
My colors are nice indeed, but there are plenty of graphic things to fix, Dima did a more professional job and he decided to make the map grayish and dark.

Travelling to the West at that time was pain, suffer and even death, so I can understand Dima's style, it's thematic in the end.
[ I recommend to watch the miniseries "1883"  before playing this map! I enjoyed it very much. ]

I'm open to any solution, I proposed the dark (current) version with a wood-colored frame. I could try to see how it looks by myself but I'm busy right now.

i managed to turn the colors to make it close to bishops version, just without the errors beneath the writings. theoretically i can proceed wh this style.

But you must be clear about the fact the background images are reversed in color.

regarding text and dots: the solution is simple: make them on a different layer amd make them exactly overlay the old writings and dots. This way one can change the color palette and dots/writings independantly from each other.

Ah yes, you are right, one can overlay the dots one by one, I didn't get it.

yes i loved 1883.
i think i like the first one the best. not a fan of the yellow frames in images 3 & 4, and i dont mind 5's darkness, it's not so gloomy, maybe just enough to portray the pain that bishop mentions.

so i would proceed with this version? if both of you agreed on that.

The frames are not important, they can be changed independantly from the main image.

Also the "a" in Independance is not important, it can be chanhed easy once there is agreement on the main image style.

Also i would make new writings in white with black frame, instead of black w. white frame.

i also find the reverse coloring wierd. i can make it more bright than the current version and more closer to bishops version' brightness level, just without the reversed colors.

Yes I agree! Do not use my version with inverted b/w colours.

Even more in my opinion. Trying to create a strong contrast between the frame in real colours and the rest of the map almost b/w, just like the old b/w pictures.

alright, i have some more versions:

None of them has inverted color. My fav is 3, also 4 and 5. I think if the colors become too bright and less grayish, then the visibility of background images vanishes and they start to become unrecognizible.

ignore the dots, writing and frame, i can change all of this independently.
