okay, made some design development. need to work on opacy a bit and connect the pics with each other properly, but i think i am getting nearer to the final result.
i mostly took pics from important events (30 years war, hambacher celebration), persons in german history (friedrich barbarossa, karl the great), symbols of german national awakening 1840 ("germania" paintings and monuments) and some nice german architecture (framework buildings and something else) to make the map more "atmospheric" and interesting to look at. i think thismap has better design, the other germany map is a bit too cheesy.
i aimed to give the map a rustic/vintage/gotic/late middle ages till 1900 look.
i prefer and appreciate the clean lines, i think that's why i liked it, the art pops more. the lines remind me of psymonstarks Balkan Peninsula map of thick and clean. my eyes are already playing up (started wearing prescription glasses) and the new look is extra buggy on my eyes, it doesn't enhance anything for me or give it any character you might have went for, in my opinion.
having just found out that I have 10% Germanic DNA, i'm a bit more interested in it now lol
edit.. also, we have to avoid any affiliation with official RISK, you have worded it somewhat with Risiko Karte in it's title. I'm assuming it means Risk Cartography or Risk Map
Alright, i updated the map with normal borders and removed the "risk" from the title.
Btw, having germanic DNA doesnt mean to be german and vice versa. Germanic tribes migrated to central europe which was inhabited by celts (la tene and hallstatt cultures) and slavs. These populations were culturally assimilated into germanic tribes. So the contemporaty german population is a mix of these three groups.
Its more likely you got your germanic DNA from your english/irish/scottish ancestor. The british islands were inhabitated by celtic tribes then they experienced wave of germanic migrations (angels, saxons, jutes, danes, norwegians). These germanic tribes brough germanic DNA on the british islands. So since you are from NZ and its population is a mix of Maori & Brits, its likely that you got your germanic DNA through Britain.

If your male ancestor is the one of euro and specifically germanic descent, then you most likely are I1, R1a or R1b
